“The creation of a more peaceful and happier society has to begin from the level of the individual, and from there it can expand to one’s family, to one’s neighborhood, to one’s community and so on.” – Dalai Lama
The definition of vengeance is “Seeking to harm someone in return for a perceived injury”.
I remember a friend who was bitten by her grandson a few times. She finally said to her daughter ” I am letting you know that the next time he bites I am going to bite him back.” Her daughter interpreted her Mother’s action as taking cruel vengeance. The Mother read it as a simple way to show her grandson what it felt like to be bitten, eye for an eye or vengeance that is useful and basically harmless.
thank you for this beautiful thought.
the post from the Urban Retreat reminded me I can ask for help when I am stuck on my personal way to peace and happiness. So the question I would need help with is: when is it appropriate to be vindictive/vengeful?
thank you!
Mmmmm……I hope it helps to find a good example that is mine. it makes sense, I need to translate into smth I personally relate to. thanks!
